Why should I support #GivingTuesdayMontco?

#GivingTuesday celebrates giving and by continuing a conversation about ways to give more, give smarter, and put personal philanthropy back into the giving season. Imagine the impact your gift will have and the leverage power when combined with online donors throughout our county and beyond—all for the benefit of Montgomery County communities!


How do I receive donation documentation for my records and tax purposes?

Participating non-profits will provide appropriate and necessary donation documentation through their respective offices. If you have additional questions pertaining to this matter, please contact the non-profit you support directly.

Does #GivingTuesdayMontco recommend where to donate or volunteer?

No. This website is a volunteer led effort, and nonprofits who have chosen to participate have stated that they are a qualified 501(c)(3).  #GivingTuesdayMontco does not recommend, support, or endorse any specific participating non-profit. Online resources like Charity Navigator and Guidestar enable donors to access relevant information before making a donation.

Who can give?

Families, individuals, businesses, organizations, community groups are encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them—whether that means volunteering for one or more of the #GivingTuesdayMontco participants or donating to a favorite cause. If you are younger than 18 years of age, please have your parent/guardian(s) approve your online giving/participation.

Why should my organization participate in #GivingTuesdayMontco?

In 2012, more than 2,500 recognized #GivingTuesday™ participants from all 50 states of the United States took part in the movement. The collective efforts of partners, donors and advocates helped fuel a marked increase in charitable giving on GivingTuesday. Last year, more than 10,000 organizations in 46 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday.  Your organization will have the opportunity to join over 10,000 partners around the world to enhance the philanthropic sector as a whole; just as the retail world has benefitted from coordinating national shopping days across many brands and platforms, #GivingTuesday will do the same for giving.

Can my non-profit organization receive donations through the #GivingTuesdayMontco website?

No. Eligible non-profit organizations participating in the #GivingTuesdayMontco must be able to accept online donations through their website. #GivingTuesdayMontco site will link to those web pages; it does not accept or distribute donations. All donations are made directly to the participating non-profits, and need to be made through participant websites.

How does my non-profit organization become an official #GivingTuesdayMontco participant?

Very easily! Please click on the Join tab for the participant form. Eligible #GivingTuesdayMontco participants must be a registered, 501(c)3 non-profit with a service and program area that includes Montgomery County. Participating non-profits must also be able to accept online giving via their website. Once you sign up and complete the participant form, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. #GivingTuesdayMontco steering committee members will review the information and if complete, will upload the information in the participant section. Participant submissions will be accepted until 5:00 pm on November 15, 2016.

What organizations can participate?

#GivingTuesdayMontco is part of the national celebration of generosity. It’s a day to build awareness and give a gift that makes an impact—right here in Montgomery County. #GivingTuesdayMontco gives you the chance to contribute to important causes in our county.

What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday™ is a national movement to create a day of giving added to the calendar on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday inspires personal philanthropy and encourages bigger, better and smarter charitable giving during the holiday season, showing that the world truly gives as good as it gets. The fifth annual #GivingTuesday will take place on November 29, 2016!
